Our Handlers and our Companions

Our Handlers are professionals that have been working with their therapy dogs for at least 2 years prior to becoming Companion for Courage Dogs.  These dogs have been exposed to nursing homes, hospitals, elementary school children, disabled children and adults, excessive crowds, and more.  Our handlers are required to complete a background check and a fingerprint check before being accepted into Companions for Courage.  The dogs are also required to be deemed healthy by a veterinarian and be up to date on their rabies vaccination. All of our dogs carry a minimum of $2 million in liability insurance.

Companions

Woolf

Woolf

Woolf is a 4 year old White Shepherd/Husky mix and the Founder of Companions For Courage. He was found in a parking lot when he was about 7 months old.  At the age of 1, Woolf started doing therapy work at hospitals and nursing homes. He developed a love for children and started working with elementary age kid on a regular basis. Woolf also helps out at the Lake & Sumter Children's Advocacy working with the counselors and children. At 3 1/2 Woolf was asked to participate in his first court case. He gained a lot of respect from the lawyers, judges, and other court staff, but best of all, he helped the children that he was assisting. After a lot of thought and dedication, Woolf started Companions for Courage.

Jake

Jake

Jake is a Yellow Labrador Retriever who loves swimming, playing catch and being a Therapy Dog. As a Therapy Dog, Jake enjoys meeting new people, but especially loves to visit the kids at Camp Boggy Creek. He is still a playful puppy, but when he puts on his cape, he knows it's time to be serious.

Otto

Otto

Meet Otto, he is an 8 year old rescued white boxer with striking blue eyes. Otto has been a therapy dog for six years. He works with children, special needs children and the sick and elderly. Otto is a very gentle and patient therapy dog.

Newman

Newman

Meet Newman, he is a six year old rescued boxer with a great sense of humor, (yes, dogs have funny bones). Newman had his first therapy visit as a three month old puppy and has been bringing smiles to children and adults ever since.

Carson

Carson

Meet Carson - a 3 1/2 Y.O. rescued Border Collie mix.  He has a very special, gentle spirit with kind eyes and a way of touching everyone's heart he meets both young and old.  He is especially fond of belly rubs, playing with his younger "sister" Graci, cats and being a clown. Carson can't wait to meet his next friend.
